And then there were two...
The most shocking elimination for the entire season happened last night when front-runner and consistent performer Melinda Doolittle from Brentwood, Tennessee was eliminated and left Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis to battle it out in the Finale next week.
Jordin Sparks, 17 years old from Glendale, Arizona started out in the competition as the young girl which showed a lot of potential. And as the competition progresses, she showed her worth in the competition by giving above average and stellar performances. Her innate charm, spunky and fun attitude may be the reasons why she never landed on the bottom 3 spot and catapulted her way into the Grand Finale. The songs I Who Have Nothing, A Broken Wing and You Will Never Walk Alone are her best performances in this competition
25 year old Blake Lewis, dubbed as the "contemporary rebel" by Paula Abdul, is the most unique contestant in the whole history of American Idol because of his ability to beatbox. He became the favorite amongst the guys because of his beatboxing ,his smooth vocals and his charm that made teens and girls to vote for him to be in the Finale. His best performances are You Give Love A Bad Name, I Need To Know and Time of the Season are his highlights in the show.
So what happened to the results? Randy predicted that it will be a girl-girl finale. Simon said that he wants to see Melinda in the final two. But the results show last night proved them wrong.
Melinda, who never landed in the Bottom 3 like Jordin, became too consistent. Too consistent that I can't even pick her three best performances. Both Blake and Jordin had their shining and not so shining moments and showed their growth and improvement as the competition progressed. Melinda, on the other hand, was very good at the start of the competition and her performances are on a plateau.
Other than that, I can't see another reason why Melinda got booted out. I don't want to go into race and her being another "typical black singer that sings very well". At least she stayed longer than Sanjaya.
My verdict for the final results? Tough call. But I think, it will be a "teenager". :)
